Scope and Objectives
The main objective of the Symposium is to provide a forum for engineers, researchers and students to exchange views and present their most recent contributions in the area of computational geomechanics. The scope of the Symposium is broad and significant contributions on advances in numerical analysis of geotechnical structures such as earth and rock fill dams, slopes, tunnels and underground caverns, as well as foundations for wind and wave energy harvesting structures, are welcome. Papers on computational engineering geology and geophysics related to issues in petroleum, mining, CO2 and nuclear waste storage and offshore engineering are also welcome. Contributions on multiscale constitutive modelling as well as hydro-mechanical-thermal coupling in saturated and unsaturated geomaterials are also of relevance.
The Symposium will include invited theme lectures presented by distinguished researchers and engineers from the field of computational geomechanics. These will be complemented by presentations given by the Symposium participants. The number of contributions will be restricted to 120. Ample time will be provided for formal and informal discussions.

Abstract and Manuscript Submissions
Contributed papers will be selected on the basis of submitted abstracts, which should be in English and not exceed 300 words (one page). Abstracts are invited by 31 January 2013 and authors will be informed of acceptance by 15 February 2013.
Abstracts should be submitted in MS Word (.doc) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.

Location Details
Kraków:
Kraków is the second largest city in Poland and one of the oldest. The city dates back to the 7th century. Kraków has traditionally been one of the leading centers of Polish academic, cultural, and artistic life and is one of Poland’s most important economic hubs.
Developed over many centuries, Kraków provides a showcase setting for many historic styles of architecture. Kraków’s historic center, which includes the Old Town, Kazimierz and the Wawel Castle, was included as the first of its kind on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1978. The city’s former Jewish district of Kazimierz is particularly notable for its many renaissance buildings and picturesque streets.
Public transport is based on a fairly dense network of trams and bus lines operated by a municipal company, supplemented by a number of private minibus operators. The bulk of the city’s historic area has been turned into a pedestrian zone with rickshaws and horse buggies; however, the tramlines run within a three-block radius.
How to get to the Hotel:
The hotel is located in Krakow city center near the Old Town and it’s about 1.5km from the central railway station. There are different ways to get to the Hotel. The easiest, but the most expensive option, is to use the taxi service. The cost is approx. 70PLN. The taxi stands are located outside the terminal building. Taxis can also be ordered by phone. The least expensive taxi companies are iCar (ph. # 12 653 55 55) and Mega (ph. # 12 400 00 00). A more economical way, still very convenient, to get to the Krakow downtown is by train. The train station is located 200m away and there is a free shuttle bus from the terminal building. One way ticket costs around 8PLN (the tickets can be purchased from the machine at the station or directly onboard the train) and the journey to the central railway station takes about 20min. Finally, there are also express minibuses located in the front of the terminal building which will take you to the central train station; the cost is 20PLN/person.
